Columbus OH (Vocus/PRWEB ) July 20, 2009 -- Columbus, Ohio, plastic surgeon, Dr. Jeffery Donaldson, is now offering Dysport to his patients. Dysport is the newest wrinkle treatment recently approved by the Federal Drug Administration for use in the United States. Dysport has been used for years in Europe and South America.
The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Medicis the rights to manufacture and distribute Dysport botulinum toxin product in the United States, Canada and Japan. Medicis is the manufacturer of the Restylane dermal filler.
Only the second drug approved by the FDA as a treatment for wrinkles, Dysport treats forehead wrinkles and frown lines. This newest injectable is made from the same active ingredient in BOTOX Cosmetic (made by Allergan), Clostridium botulinim toxin type A. These drugs reduce the appearance of wrinkles by restricting the underlying muscles that cause the facial creases.
Columbus, Ohio, plastic surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Donaldson, comments, “Dysport is the first real competitor. BOTOX has had a monopoly until this product, and we are excited to be the first in Columbus to offer Dysport to our patients.”
It is observed by many that Dysport works more quickly than BOTOX Cosmetic. BOTOX needs 7-10 days to start seeing real effects; Dysport starts smoothing wrinkles in 2-3 days.
Dr. Donaldson again, “Dysport acts on the muscles that cause wrinkling of the face. And it relaxes those muscles. To soften frown lines and smooth the wrinkles between the eyebrows.”
Dysport is also believed to last longer. Clinical trials suggest Dysport may last for up to five or six months, instead of about three months for Botox. To a patient this may mean visiting the plastic surgeon’s office twice a year instead of 3 times a year, which will add up to significant savings for the consumer and an added incentive try Dysport. Columbus, Ohio, surgeon, Dr. Donaldson says, “The prices are similar to BOTOX, but we think that because it lasts longer, it may end up costing a little less.”
